Can Buffalo Bills end their SuperBowl drought?

The Buffalo Bills won the American Football Conference (AFC) East for the second time in a row last season. They finished with 11 wins and six defeats to finish above their rivals the New England Patriots once again.

2022 sees the Buffalo Bills come into the season with one of the best rosters in the league. Travelling to the Super Bowl holders LA Rams in the opening game, the NFL week 1 odds suggests it will be closely fought.

Having made the post season in the past two seasons, the Buffalo Bills are still in search of a Super Bowl appearance, let alone a win. Fans have had a long wait and will see their quarter back, Josh Allen, as a player who could be the man to take their talented side there.

Josh Allen

Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. For so long Tom Brady was the star of the AFC East, now Allen can dominate it during the regular season once again.

The QB has all the ability to be a league MVP and carry this talented roster through to the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance.

He threw for 4407 yards last season, 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. His 6.8 yards per attempt average was a lot shorter than many of the top rival QB’s last season like Matthew Stafford at the LA Rams who averaged 8.1 yards per attempt.

The Bills don’t need to risk going long too often, the ability of the wide receivers and the running game ensures they can work their way down the field and manage games incredibly well.

Stefon Diggs

The Wide Receiver had 103 receptions last season, the ninth highest in the NFL. Diggs gad the eight most yards with 1225 and managed to bring in nine touchdowns.

103 receptions from 164 targets was a solid effort from Diggs who has an excellent rapport with Josh Allen which gives him the chance to be a star on the offense of this team.

After four years in Minnesota, Diggs joined the Buffalo Bills in 2020 and the NFL receptions leader with 127 and 1535 yards.

He will be used to make plays and get the ball downfield, each season he has been effective while not scoring the high number of touchdowns some other wide receivers are making. The way the Bills play ensures a full team contribution, but Diggs will once again show he is one of the stars of the roster in 2022.

Dawson Knox

Drafted by the Bills in 2019, Knox arrived from Ole Miss as a third-round pick and has been a regular in the starting line up since.

He has made 101 receptions across his three seasons while logging 14 touchdowns, nine of which came last season. Last year was also his highest personal receiving yards season where he made 587 from 49 receptions.

Knox has become a key part of the offense and in the passing game, last season he took in two touchdowns on Thanksgiving against the New Orleans Saints to raise his total to seven. This was a Buffalo franchise record for the most receiving touchdowns in a season by a tight end.

Jordan Poyer

The 31-year-old safety has been with the Bills since joining in 2017. Alongside Micah Hyde, Poyer helps make up one of the best safety duos in the league and both were All-Pro safeties last season.

Poyer will continue to dominate on defense and look to improve on his five interceptions last season.

Concerns over some injuries in training camp seem to have been died down and Poyer looks set to be out there in week one, looking to get the season off to a winning start.

Von Miller

Coming off a successful Super Bowl win with the LA Rams, Von Miller adds more top-level talent to the Bills front seven.

Miller has been in the league since being drafted by the Denver Broncos with the second pick of the 2011 draft. He played for 10 years with the Broncos where he won one Super Bowl before one season with the Rams last year.

He was Super Bowl 50’s MVP and even won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011. He has been to eight Pro Bowls, been named on the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team and bring leadership and experience at the top level to the Bills side.

Having a player like Miller on the roster lifts the level and the consistency of players around him which should help with their goals this season.

It won’t be much of a surprise if we see Allen and co in the Super Bowl come February 2023. That is what this roster is being set up to achieve and Allen has the weapons around him to make that happen.

As well as offense, their defense is one of the most formidable in the NFL which should help them dominate and control games throughout the season and give the fans plenty to cheer.
