Telegram message deleted? How to recover

Last Updated on April 3, 2024 by Tayyaba Shafqat

Telegram is a free cloud-based messaging and voice calling service with support for end-to-end encryption. It was developed by Pavel Durov, who is also the founder of Vkontakte, Russia’s largest social network. Telegram’s emphasis on security and privacy has made it popular among activists, journalists, and those looking to avoid surveillance or censorship. However, like all forms of digital communication, Telegram isn’t immune to being hacked or erased by accident. Fortunately, there are several methods you can use to recover deleted messages so that your private conversations remain just that: private.

The general way to find deleted messages

Search feature:

If you have the chat history saved and search for the messages, they will come up.

Message history feature: Messages deleted and sent by you will appear in your message history. You can find them using this feature on the Telegram app(电报APP)

Message delete feature:

Deleted messages are stored in Telegram servers until they are permanently deleted by default settings that are set to save all data from your device for 30 days. However, if someone else deletes your message before this period ends, then it cannot be retrieved anymore using this method.

Message recall feature:

This is another way to recover deleted messages on Telegram but it only works when you accidentally deleted a message without sending it or sending one unintentionally (if there was no time for editing).

Find deleted messages with the desktop app

If you want to recover deleted messages from your Telegram account, the first thing you need to do is go to Telegram’s official website(Telegram官网)

You can download the desktop app and sign in with your Telegram credentials. Then open up the chat window whose contents you want to recover. On its right side, three dots indicate a hidden menu where you can access all of your chat histories. Click on them, then choose View Message History from the list that appears.

If you’re using an Android device or iPhone, follow these instructions instead:

If you don’t want to use the web-based version of Telegram, you can always download the official app on your computer (Windows, macOS) and use that.

The steps are very similar to using its mobile counterpart: open up your device’s web browser and head over to https://telegram.org/apps/. Then click on “Download” next to “Telegram Desktop.”

Once downloaded, launch the application and navigate through its menus until you find yourself in a conversation with the person whose message you want to be recovered. You’ll see their profile picture at the top left corner of each chat window; this will help identify them later on when we go over how to recover their full message.

Now look at what’s written between their name and photo (or check out our screenshot below). It should read something like “Message history” or “Conversations” or just plain old “History.” If there isn’t any text here then just close all windows until one opens up again—this is usually where conversations are kept but if not then try opening another window instead until one does show up again so long as they’re highlighted green before disappearing once more–and hopefully this time it will display some info underneath such labels as above mentioned ones which means everything should now be working properly!

Find deleted messages with the mobile app

If you have deleted a message in Telegram on your mobile phone, it may still be recoverable.

To find deleted messages in Telegram on your mobile device:

  • Open the Telegram app and select “Menu” from the bottom left corner of your screen.
  • Select “Delete Messages” from this menu (it’s under “Messages and Calls”). This will take you to a list of all of your existing conversations, with an option at the top to view only those that are unread or starred as favorites by you or other users involved in these chats – which may help if those are what you’re looking for! If not, just scroll down until reaching conversations that have been recently deleted by someone else (or yourself).
  • Selecting one of these conversations should show all messages within it – including any that were previously deleted but do not appear as such anymore due to being resaved by another user later on.”

Deleted messages can be recovered

If you delete a message in Telegram(电报) and you think it is gone forever, you can recover it.

There are two ways to do so: one is to use the desktop app, and the other one is to use the mobile app. Both methods are described in this article.

It’s not always possible to recover deleted messages in Telegram. The platform has made it harder over time, but there is still a way if you know what you’re doing.
